While many children will revel at the thought of being able to express themselves in their room, there are definitely some children whose personalities don t enjoy being disrupted by changes.  So changing up this type of child s room can have a big impact on their psyche, and they might not seem very excited about the prospect of undergoing a big change in their room.  If you think this might be the case for your son, you can help smooth over the rough transition by keeping familiar elements of what they love about their room, like using the same color scheme when you look for toddler boys bedding sets.  Don t push him outside of his comfort zone by urging him to pick something new, you might even be able to find a toddler set that matches the baby boy bedding he currently has in his crib.  If you can emphasize the positive aspects of the transition and downplay the major changes, you can help ease his nerves.

One thing that almost all children love about redecorating is that it gives them a chance to voice their opinions and have a chance to create a space that truly feels like it belongs to them.  When it finally comes time to redo the nursery, let your toddler take an active role in the bedding that you choose for his new and improved big boy room.  This active role can help boost his confidence, and has the obvious benefit: you know that he will love what he has chosen himself.  If you are leery of letting your toddler have such a vocal role in choosing the bedding theme that will adorn his room, then narrow his options. Boys toddler beds should reflect how energetic and playful children are at that age, so focus on designs that are geared towards what he likes.  Choose a handful of bedding sets that appeal to you and that you think he would as well.  He'll have no idea that you've already essentially made the decision for him, but he also gets the satisfaction of choosing exactly what he wants.

Don t disregard the fact that all children are unique as your start to plan your child s new room.  If your son seems truly uneasy about the change from a crib to a bed, there is nothing wrong with him, he made just not be ready.  Try to root out the reason why changing is a scary prospect to him, and you have a much easier time trying to sort out exactly what you will need to do in order to soothe his fears.

Buying a Toddler Bed

Once your child is ready to move on from his crib into a bed, you are left with two different options.  Many parents, concerned with smoothing the transition and the safety of their child, will opt to look at boy toddler beds.  Toddler beds are built to be comfortable for a small child; they tend to be much shorter in length and will be lower to the ground.  The advantage of a toddler bed is that they often also come with built in safety railings to keep your child feeling secure at night while also mirroring the look of a crib.  The mattresses used for theses sized beds is sometimes the same size as a standard crib mattress, so you may be able to keep some of the pieces from your crib set if you like. If you have a little boy that seems unsure about the move from a crib to a bed, a toddler bed is one option you have to make the change a little easier for him to digest.

Some parents however, will simply purchase a standard size bed for their toddler, to avoid having to replace the toddler bed in a few short years.  The advantage of this route is that it will definitely save money, but you should consider how well your child will do sleeping in a regular sized bed.  If safety is a concern for you, there are bed rails that you can easily install on most bed frames that can be removed once your child is old enough to sleep through the night without them.

Toddler Bed Safety

One of the issues that might cause the most amount of stress for you as you plan the switch from your child s crib to a new bed is the added risks he will face.  Children can be prone to moving around in their sleep, and unlike a crib that will keep them in one spot; a child can easily fall out of a bed.  If you have chosen a toddler bed for his room, you won t need to be too concerned because most toddler beds come with rails along the sides to prevent your child from rolling out of bed in his sleep.  If you have opted to go straight to a standard sized bed for your toddler, then you will want look into safety bars that can be added on while he is still adjusting, and easily removed once he feels safe sleeping in his new bed.

Unlike his crib bedding, boys toddler bedding doesn't pose the same health risks with suffocation, but you will still want to make sure that you purchase the right size bedding.  Remember that toddler beds are much smaller compared to a standard twin sized bed, so you will want to purchase your new bedding accordingly.  Many toddler beds can be assembled after purchase just like a crib, so once you have it set up in your child s room, make sure it is sturdy enough.  And if you have purchased an iron bed frame, routine check the joints and bolts as they tend to jiggle loose over time.

The Big Move

You may be ready for your child to move on from his crib, but even with the best planning, you might still be met with some resistance from your child about switching from his crib into a bed.  If that is the case, there a few tips to make the transition go a little easier.  If your child is the first born, he may be particularly inclined to resist a move into a new bed.  And if you are expecting another child, he will be especially reluctant to give up his position as the baby in the family.  Remember to highlight all of the positive aspects of the move into a big bed, how it marks a very exciting stage in his growth, and include him as you look around at boys toddler beds.  If it s possible, put the toddler bed in the same area of his bedroom to make it similar to his nursery.  If you have the space available, consider assembling the toddler bed in his room and allowing him to ease into using the bed by limiting it to his daily naps.  After this initial trail period, it might be easier for him to spend the whole night in his new bed.  You might consider finding boy toddler bedding that is similar to the design scheme on his crib comforter to keep a sense of familiarity for him.  It might help him make the connection that a bed serves the same purpose as a crib, just in a different form.  In the end, the best way to address any issue with your child is to listen to what he is saying; oftentimes children will say outright what makes them nervous or unhappy.  If you take the time to understand, you will be able to help your child adjust to all the of the changes that he must go through.
